Established in 1970, the Gold Coast Fishermen's Co-Operative was one of the first developments on the Spit at Main Beach.
For decades trawlers caught and sold their local catch to providers in the seafood industry. In 2005, the Co-Operative sought approval from the Gold Coast City Council Health and began selling their catch direct to the public from the boat at the best possible price.

Annual Season Closures

Weather permitting our Trawler Operators will head back to work on the evening of 1/11/26. The Spanner Crab Fishery will commence their season closure on 1/11/26 which will conclude on 15/12/26, they will be back to work, weather permitting, on 16/12/26.
The Co-op was promised a fully operational facility. But, the redevelopment plans fail to deliver.

1. The site allocated by the State Government is far too small to allow a commercial fishing operation.
2. The new plans require customers to pay for underground parking with a long complicated walk to the trawlers.
3. The huge rent increase for the Co-op will make the price of seafood unaffordable.
